What is the best way to make use of my new stand up desk?

When starting a new healthy habit, sometimes there is a little mental resistance. Don’t be discouraged, you’ll be surprised how quickly a new work style can grow. Especially when you start feeling the benefits!

How long should I staying sitting or standing at my desk?

A good rule of thumb is to spread at least two hours of standing throughout an average work day. This comes out to around 15 minutes out of each hour of an 8 hour day. However, some research has shown that as much as a 1:1 or even a 1:3 ratio of sitting-to-standing can produce the best results. That’s up to 45 minutes of standing every hour. Take this into account, experiment, and find out what’s best for you.

Having trouble keeping track of time? Try setting a timer for 30-45 minutes when you first sit down at your desk. When the timer calls, stand up and reset the timer. Remain standing for at least 15 minutes. If you’re still comfortable, continue to work standing for up to 45 minutes. It is important not to push yourself. Remember, a height adjustable workstation is meant to keep you feeling great throughout the day.

Proper ergonomic sitting or standing chairs and accessories can make your new work style even more comfortable. When in the standing position, anti-fatigue mats can make a huge difference and relieve pressure on your joints. Coupled with an ergonomic chair, a properly formated workstation can do wonders.

Listen to Your Body

Remember, your desk and desk riser is an ally, but they can’t help you if you don’t use them! The best way to stop back pain is to act before it arrives. Take time to move around while standing in order to stop cramps and pain. When in doubt, always listen to your body.
